A few recent works part 2

Here is another set of commissioned portraits I completed this last year. These kids are all cousins or siblings in the same family. They are all 8x10 on Strathmore tan toned paper. These all turned out great, and I think the photos turned out well too, as they were taken in the summer and the light was perfect.

This last portrait was the first drawing I did of this girl, but the parents wanted a different photo so the one above was the second attempt, which I actually like much better. Also, the photo of the art is more accurate.

A few recent works.

I did several commissioned children's portraits over this last year, all of which are 8x10 and rendered in prismacolor pencil on Strathmore tan toned paper. I will post them in groups according to the job. These were a group of 15 portraits, consisting of three portraits each of five children. There are actually sixteen total, because I didn't like one of the portraits and chose to draw a different photo.

Each group of three represents the same subject, just with different lighting and expressions.

 B. This is the one that I drew a fourth portrait. The one I like least is the last one in the group.
 

 C. I like all three of these, though they're very different.

C. I love the first two of these especially.

 

 D. The first one here is the best.

 

 

Dog

This is my first real animal portrait, and it didn't turn out too bad. It was drawn in white prismacolor and black graphite pencils on grey toned paper.

Sunflowers

The colors didn't translate well in this photo, but this was a marker and Prismacolor pencil drawing of my daughter. The marker and pencil blend better in the real drawing, but the marker looks brighter and richer in this photo. The only part I don't like in this is not sticking to my initial sketch once I started adding color; the glasses look a little funky because if that. Drawing is 11x14".

 These are a few more of my old pieces that I've been scanning.  The first was a fun piece I created during my breaktimes at work in 2003. It is made of blue, orange and yellow paper, along with a black xerox copy cut with a box cutter for the tree. The people were a xerox copy of an earlier pen drawing, and everything was colored with green and orange highlighters. It was a lot of fun! This piece is around 10x10".




The second piece was a commissioned drawing for a professor of Religion I knew in college. He wanted an illustration of "repentance". I used my brother as the model. This is just a photograph of a copy (as the teacher has the original.) The original was a prismacolor drawing about 5x10" in size, and was completed in 2001.

These are some portrait sketches of a few teachers I had in college; most were done around eight years ago, except the last which was just finished last year. They were all done from photos.

Family

These are some small pencil sketches I did of my sister and brother. The one of my sister was a study for a painting I would be doing later.

Sketchbook: Bainbridge Ferry

These are sketches I did on the ferry during the year and a half I lived on Bainbridge Island in Washington. Okay, most of them were done in a short few weeks period, as after that I got tired of it. Literally: I started taking naps on the ferry instead. Oh well. I suppose I could've been more brilliant and gone outside, huh?





These last two are of my work spaces in Seattle. Exciting.
