 This is the 15th drawing in a series of grandchildren portraits for a friend of mine. This drawing is prismacolor pencil, 8x10"

This small drawing was a gift for a friend who had recently lost their pet. It was also an experiment in trying to use the style of another artist I have been admiring recently, M. Katherine Hurley . I love this vague, tonal style, especially since my usual work is so linear. I'd love to do some more work like this.
The only thing I don't like about this piece is the shape of the cat's head; it looks a little too human instead of feline. My drawing was pieced together from some bad photos of the actual cat (to see what kind of markings it had) and the poses of some other cats. I need to work on some cat studies before I do more animals!

Marker and Crayon: Autumn scene

I did this drawing while I was on a trip and didn't have all of my art supplies with me. I had paper, and had brought a handful of my markers, but I hadn't brought colored pencils. So I grabbed my daughter's crayons! It wasn't very planned outbut it was a lot of fun anyway. When I got home, I threw in a few more details with pencil.
Later, I decided to fix a tree that was driving me nuts,by redrawing it on another paper and gluing it on. Now it's a collage too.

 This is the third drawing that goes with the two in the previous post, illustrating the client's memories of a roadside park he remembers visiting in his youth.
It is drawn with Copic and Prismacolor markers, with some details in Prismacolor pencil.

Marker illustrations

These were some recent drawings I did for a friend, to illustrate some of their personal family stories. Both are done with Prismacolor and Copic marker, with some details done in Prismacolor pencil, and are 11x14".
The first (my favorite) depicts the kids of the family back in the sixties. They used to visit a petshop where they'd tap the glass on the fish tank for fun, even though there was a sign saying not to tap it.There was also a Mina bird in the shop that would always "talk" to them as they came in.



The second shows the family cat, who disapeared during a tornado, but reappeared months later. The family story goes that the cat must have been visiting OZ with Dorothy. I like my general layout on this drawing, but wish I would have planned some things better, like the placement of the tree in front of the cat. Also, the apples were a last minute thing that could have been planned better...I hate the one on the far left!
I do love the sky though.

 These are a few more of my old pieces that I've been scanning.  The first was a fun piece I created during my breaktimes at work in 2003. It is made of blue, orange and yellow paper, along with a black xerox copy cut with a box cutter for the tree. The people were a xerox copy of an earlier pen drawing, and everything was colored with green and orange highlighters. It was a lot of fun! This piece is around 10x10".




The second piece was a commissioned drawing for a professor of Religion I knew in college. He wanted an illustration of "repentance". I used my brother as the model. This is just a photograph of a copy (as the teacher has the original.) The original was a prismacolor drawing about 5x10" in size, and was completed in 2001.
